The 2025 Château Cheval Blanc is an extraordinary and highly distinctive expression of Saint-Émilion, combining remarkable concentration with exceptional freshness, perfume and precision. Produced from extraordinarily low yields of just 15 hl/ha, the vintage is defined by intensity rather than weight. Crafted from 51% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Grand Vin incorporates 46 of the estate’s 47 parcels, and no Petit Cheval was produced. At just 12.7% alcohol, the wine possesses classical proportions, tremendous aromatic complexity and the structure for decades of evolution.
Tasting Profile
On the nose, expect captivating aromas of dark berries, black cherry, wild berries and red currant, complemented by elegant floral notes of iris, violet and lavender, alongside nuances of blood orange, graphite, cedar, mint, spice and crushed stone. The palate is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with remarkable mid-palate density framed by exceptionally fine, polished tannins. Vibrant acidity provides freshness and tension, while the high proportion of Cabernet Franc contributes perfume, energy and definition. The finish is extraordinarily long, mineral and floral, combining impressive power with the effortless elegance that defines Cheval Blanc.
Critic Reviews & Scores
Wine Advocate / William Kelley:
98–100/100 – One of the finest wines of the 2025 Bordeaux vintage, showing dark berries and cherries with blood orange and iris. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with impressive mid-palate density, sweet tannins and a vibrant, violet-inflected finish. Kelley considers it potentially one of the great Cheval Blancs of the decade.
James Suckling:
97–98/100 – Exceptionally perfumed, with flowers, brambleberries and wild berries followed by cedar, earthy nuances and chocolate. Medium-bodied with tight, ultra-fine tannins, excellent transparency and a long, energetic finish.
Jeb Dunnuck:
95–97/100 – A dense, powerful and streamlined Cheval Blanc with remarkable purity. Red, blue and black fruits combine with floral, graphite and inky nuances, supported by ripe polished tannins and excellent balance. Built for a very long evolution in bottle.
Vinous / Antonio Galloni:
96–99/100 – Seamless, textured and deeply seductive, with layers of sage, mint, lavender, cloves and cool-toned fruit. The wine combines substantial tannic structure with impressive energy and integration, promising fascinating development with age.
Decanter:
98/100 – Complex and beautifully controlled, with blackcurrant, cherry, cedar, cinnamon and floral nuances. Supple and fleshy yet fresh and chalky, with beautifully integrated tannins and impressive delicacy despite the extreme concentration of the vintage.
