The 2025 Château Chasse-Spleen is a structured and characterful expression of Moulis-en-Médoc, combining impressive fruit concentration with freshness, tension and classic Médoc elegance. Following a warm and dry growing season punctuated by several short heat waves, the estate harvested ripe, healthy fruit with particularly strong results from Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Crafted from 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the wine combines muscular structure with fine tannins and a vibrant, fresh personality.

Tasting Profile

On the nose, expect expressive aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, red currant and dark berries, complemented by notes of violet, graphite, flint, pink pepper, dried herbs and subtle earthy spice. The palate is medium-bodied, structured and energetic, with good fruit depth framed by juicy, finely textured tannins. Mineral and savory nuances add complexity, while the wine maintains excellent freshness and tension. The finish is long and spicy, highlighting the combination of dark fruit, earth and classic Médoc character.

Critic Reviews & Scores

James Suckling:
93–94/100 – A highly structured Chasse-Spleen with good fruit depth and juicy tannins. Medium-bodied and muscular, with earthy, spicy and terracotta nuances complementing the fruit.

Jeb Dunnuck:
90–92/100 – Ripe black cherry, toasted nut, spicy oak and dried floral notes lead into a medium-bodied, layered palate. Ripe tannins and good balance give the wine plenty of character and promise for further development during élevage.

Vinous / Antonio Galloni:
90–92/100 – A deep and powerful Moulis-en-Médoc with dark-toned fruit accompanied by gravel, incense, new leather, liquorice and chocolate. Concentrated and expressive, with a persistent, palate-staining finish.

Vinous / Neal Martin:
90–92/100 – Red and black currant aromas with subtle ferrous nuances lead into a medium-bodied, structured palate. Dense and slightly chewy in its youth, with élevage expected to bring additional refinement.

Decanter:
92/100 – Floral and inviting, with plum, blackberry and cassis character. Smooth, polished tannins give way to a firmer mineral grip on the finish, resulting in one of the estate’s more convincing recent performances.
